Everything That Don't Ovary Act Offers

What

DON’T OVARY ACT is an education program geared towards teaching girls about handling their period in real life. It’s very different from learning about periods during sex ed. Girls are taught about the basic anatomy and process of it during “the talk”, but they don’t learn about the harshness of living life as someone with a period.

The Phases

Just as the menstrual cycle can be categorized into four phases (menstruation, the follicular phase, ovulation, and the luteal phase), this program has split up its abundance of information into four phase that discuss the science of the female reproductive system, how periods and the menstrual cycle affect daily lives, the history of period taboo (and the future of it!), along with the incoming reality of being a menstruating young woman.

Community

A key component of breaking the stigma of menstruation, and along with educating the rising generation of young women, is the formation of a community. Girls need to know that they are not alone. Providing this program would allow for girls to hear the experience of menstruation through the eyes of a teenager, who, with great difficulty, eventually learned the ropes. It will show girls that before them came other young girls who experience(d) the same thing, and they have other females in the same community with them experiencing the same situations.
